LOW MEADOW COTTAGE

Our client purchased a neighboring property to build a home where his 90-year-old father could both live independently and be near family. We designed this cottage to provide a dignified and comfortable home while subtly prioritizing first-floor living and accessibility. The windows and doors strategically frame views of the surrounding meadows and wildlife.

This property is constrained by extensive wetlands, which required us to meticulously site and size the 3-bedroom home and single car garage. We worked within an extremely tight limit of disturbance and strict requirements for tightly waterproofing the basement in order to achieve a design that was sensitive to both the delicate habitat and high-water table.

Details such as the interior-exterior stone fireplace, the painted tongue-and-groove entry walls and railing, and the bar cabinet demanded the highest skill and attention of local craftsmen. The architectural materials and style complement the primary residence next door, while maintaining privacy and an identity all its own.
